7 Tricks For You To Look As Young As You Feel

Well, the good news is that feeling could help you live longer!

Researchers at University College London have a theory:

“Someone who feels younger is possibly healthier than someone who feels olderthey have fewer diseases, they may be more mobile,” says Andrew Steptoe, one of the study authors.

So what could you do to feel even younger?

1. Be Optimistic And Full Of Energy


No need to be 20 and dancing all night long to feel like your life can be full of joy and fun. Find a hobby that you can share with friends or family, go out and discover new places. You will feel energized and positive.

“It’s totally possible to rediscover that zest and optimism you felt when you were younger,” says Caroline Adams Miller, author of Creating Your Best Life. “In fact, recapturing those qualities is essential to living a healthier, happier life in the long run.”

2. Exercise In Moderation

No matter how many birthdays you’ve celebrated, exercise can make you look younger and fitter for your age when done on a regular basis.

A brisk walk under the sun, even if it’s freezing outside, will give you youthful, glowing skin. Your sweat will clear your skin of impurities and dirt. It will also open up your pores, allowing a free flow of air. Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan could add to these benefits flexibility and focus, keys to healthy aging.

3. Eat Your Greens

Nutrition plays a major role in how your body ages.

The latest research shows that a low-glycemic diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein is the healthiest,” says Dr. Jeffrey Benabio, Physician Director of Healthcare Transformation at Kaiser Permanente Primary Care.

4. Surround Yourself With Love

Aging successfully, according to George E. Vaillant, whose book Aging Well describes the decades-long Harvard study, is something like being tickled: it’s best achieved with another person. Whether your social connections are with a spouse, offspring, siblings, bridge partners, and/or fellow hikers, they’re crucial to good health while growing older.

No one is certain exactly how a social network may help you stay healthy, although some research has shown that men and women who live alone tend to eat less well, which could jeopardize their physical and mental well-being. People with social connections also may have stronger disease-fighting immune system.

At RAND, a policy research “think tank” in Santa Monica, behavioral scientist Joan Tucker, PhD, says that having people in your life can make you feel loved and cared for, which can enhance your mental well-being. At the same time, a spouse or close friend can also remind you to go for walks or share your meals, which can have benefits for your physical health as well.



“Having someone push you to get out and exercise might not make you feel loved in the short run—in fact, it may be quite irritating,” says Tucker. “But it can be very effective in getting people to change their behaviors in positive ways.”

 5. Know What Makes You Happy

The pursuit of happiness is as critical as life and liberty. Happiness boosts the immune system and helps tamp down stress. Involvement with activities, people and experiences that bring joy and contentment also boost optimism and positive attitude, both of which are linked to longevity. And pursuing reasonable pleasures helps one live more fully in the moment.

Cultivate what psychologists call an “observing ego.” Pay extra-close attention to your mood for a few days. Jot down what’s happening during times when you feel particularly happy, as well as what circumstances drain you or trigger anxiety.

Who are you with? What are you doing? What are you thinking about? How do you feel physically and why? How can you get more of those good feelings and minimize the less-good ones?

Don’t assume you know already; you risk falling back on clichés. Learn your personal triggers so you can fully understand how to find happiness and stay happy.

6. Shake Things Up

  • Try shopping with someone in their 20s or 30s to experiment with new looks in clothing or glasses.
  • Travel to a new locale or to try a new experience.
